Day #1

Blog #1

Second day of the year, four days to go till the wedding.

I remember one thing which my aunt told me about my mum. My mum had the knack for being late. Whether it was for a family dinner, business meeting, or festival, there always seemed to be something to stall her.

The same happened today. In the rush of fixing my stubborn sister's loose blouse and doubting my dad's waist size, she forgot that we had a function to attend in a different city.

Then came the issue of the car. My family lives in Dubai, and came to India for the winter. My mum claims to be a spectacular driver, but that seems only evident in Dubai. I was yet to inspect her trying to tackle the Indian streets. To say the least, we got there safely, if not in time.

Now what does a sixteen year old boy who is probably known for nothing than his height and strength do during the wedding period. The best done by me was probably get in others' way and move stuff from here to there, and vice versa. In fact, I was able to finish the first episode in the new season of Sherlock, and spoil it for my friends.

I saw less of my sister, probably proving to everyone that her totally realistic English accent is authentic. I saw less of my mother, who was being the saviour of the day with her timely responses and anecdotes.

Possibly the best time I had today was one hour back. The male part of the group which consisted of me and several other men, had separate living 'quarters'. Now all these adults, you would think that the moment a topic arises, everyone had an expert opinion. Sadly that's exactly what happened.

There was some talk on resources and economy in the world, then went on to how falling oil prices in actually supposed to be good for the economy. Then someone brought up the idea that every business or stock market, is run by facilitators, or in infamous cricket terms, fixers. One in the group believed that there is that minute population or that one group of people who facilitate what goes in the world. They make us eat, dress, talk and work the way it was meant for us to. Then came along the idea of Uber and YouTube being just fixers, and owning the stock market today.

Being an introvert isn't usually a problem for me. I dont shy away from speaking. It's just that I can't predict people's reactions to my statements and that's scary. So the entire conversation was me watching the bravado of every politician making his voice known to the group while I was waiting for that right opportunity to strike up my own conversation, but never found it.

I can still hear them speak outside my closed door while they think I am busy dreaming. I guess I do have to get to dreaming so tomorrow I'll probably fill you up on more.
