Blog #22

Life is so cruel. Things turn around just when you wish to remain proper and nice. It's as if life only wants us to fall from grace every time. Just the other day, my mum was talking about how she was about to sell her decade-old Mitsubishi. The very next day, a wheel from car pops off while driving and the front of her car tears open. And this is a person with the cleanest track record, with only parking fines on her licence.

Speaking of grace, just yesterday the boys section participated in an Annual Talents Day. Myself, I took part in a group dance along with most of my classmates. Ours was quite something, considering that none of us knew how to dance properly and we were given a limited period of time to practice. Where we lacked in choreography and flexibility, we made up with our sense of humor and hope to gain admiration from the audience through our awe-some selection of songs, which fortunately reached the audience's hearts. Sadly, we didn't win in the dance, but our class band "The Bandits" got to third which is amazing.

But the one thing that I couldn't stand was the disrespect. The final segment of the show was solo karaoke. Due to the enormous number of participants for group dance, the show got extended. The final segment was solo singing, and it started about the time our school ends. Now here's a scenario. Imagine, working hard to learn and memorize the lyrics to a couple of songs, maybe learning the guitar singing along the karaoke. It requires a lot of courage, but also, it requires a live audience to cheer along and applause the participant, motivating him/her. Sure, it is understandable that some of the students left, all of them ignorant and indifferent towards the stage, but to see the teachers stand up and leave without a single moment of remorse in their minds is awful. I stayed till the end because according to me, if people left the auditorium while you were performing a piece, you would lose the will to continue.
